Andrew Tozer
Painting
Andrew Tozer is both a ‘plein air’ and studio painter and is respected as a master at depicting light on water. He captures light, atmosphere, and the essence of his subject matter in paintings that conjure memories of the past whilst being firmly inspired by the present. He chooses simple subjects which move him: boats at rest in a Cornish harbour, a figure in the quiet of the studio or precious family moments.
Education: Falmouth School of Arts; University of Westminster; Central St Martins College of Arts.
I am from a Cornish farming family and for as far back as I can remember, I have loved being in the open air being at one with nature. Roaming cliffs, beaches, woodlands and creeks was the backdrop to my childhood. As a young boy I felt drawn to painting and was inspired by my mother who was also an artist. I learnt my craft of painting en-plein-air whilst in London. The Thames, Richmond and Kew Gardens were all favourite haunts. Moving back to Cornwall in 1998, I quickly established a good reputation with many sell-out shows to my name. In terms of painting, I am at my happiest when working outside en-plein-air.
