Effie Gibson
Ceramics
Potter Effie Gibson uses rough and textured clays and applies a variety of slips and underglazes to the body of each pot, particularly a matt white glaze which is applied lightly, so that the colours of the slips come through. With a focus on the materiality of clay, her works are inspired by weathered natural surfaces, rock formations and the details of wintery landscapes.
Effie completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle. She then went on to study painting at the Royal College of Art for her MA. Initially trained as a painter, she came to ceramics as another way of exploring mark making, colour and texture.
