Lynn Muir
Wood
Lynne Muir combines her interest in three-dimensional work with her training as an illustrator. Working primarily on wooden figures using driftwood collected from local beaches, she lets the natural shape and form of the wood suggest figurative forms to her, and then works with machine saws, a powered sander wheel and hand tools before 'illustrating' each object or character with paint and pen.
Lynn was born in East Anglia and trained at the Colchester School of Art where she gained a degree in illustration and design. After leaving college she worked in theatrical design, and later moved to Cornwall where she established her workshop. Lynn sells in the UK, USA, Germany and Japan and in 1993 won the British Toymaker of the Year Award. In 1995, her work was the subject of the television programme Mastercraft.
