Sophie Harding
Painting
Sophie Harding’s paintings, prints and illustrations capture small but revealing moments in the everyday. Working mainly from life she paints collections of objects in her home, fruit and flowers, a morning spent on the beach or at a beautiful Cornish garden. Artists that inspire her include Milton Avery, Mary Fedden, William Scott, Klaas Gubbels, Etel Adnan, Pierre Bonnard, and Henri Matisse.
Sophie was born in London in 1970, but relocated with her family to Somerset and then Dorset, where she grew up. She studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, and graduated with a BA Hons n Fashion and Textile Design for Central St Martins, London.
I am constantly intrigued by how colours interact, clash, sing and glow depending on their situation, and the power that colour has to evoke positive feelings. Although seemingly simple these work take a lot of thought and many have paintings hidden beneath that […] still play an important part in the outcome, with subtle nuances of colour and texture just showing through the final piece.
