Neil Pinkett | New Collection 2024
This autumn we bring you a new collection by leading West Cornwall painter Neil Pinkett. Neil works in oils, using a palette knife to create images inspired by Cornwall’s most beautiful places. His acute sensitivity to the colours of the landscape and the influence of atmospheric conditions have made him one of Britian’s most respected figurative painters.
“We are all aware of the special and unusual brightness which occurs here at the tip of the country: we are on a peninsular with a huge, reflective body of water on three sides. The reality is that, a lot of time, it is cloudy and raining, drizzling or foggy. The task I set myself is to depict these constantly changing phenomenon, and the relationship this landscape has with it. I work mostly in oil paint. This takes a fair amount of preparation, especially if I am working outside. Canvases are prepainted, equipment is set up and forecasts and tide times are noted. Once the outdoor work is complete, I am back in the studio where the work is assessed, adjusted and sometimes completely changed, with many new marks made. There are some happy accidents, but the reality is that paint goes on and comes off, is scraped and dragged, until the work seems finished.” Neil Pinkett, 2024
