For this years September Festival, our exhibiting artists Neil Canning and Jack Doherty will present a series of talks at the gallery, and the Royal St Ives Cinema will host a screening of the film No Holds Barred: The Life & Art of Matthew Lanyon.
Neil Canning – Artist Talk
In the context of his Sense of Space exhibition, and his fascination with the dynamism and drama of West Penwith, Neil Canning will discuss the fine balance between the painted surface and the moment in time that it reflects.

Jack Doherty – Artist Talk
In response to his new Weathering collection, Jack Doherty will outline the dramatic journey his soda fired vessels take, from wheel to kiln, discussing how each action at every stage leaves its shaping and defining mark.

Film screening: No Holds Barred: The Life & Art of Matthew Lanyon.
Once only for the St Ives September Festival 7pm Sept 19th, a full length documentary film about the late Cornish artist Matthew Lanyon is on the big screen in St Ives, followed by Q&A.

This full length documentary film draws on interviews with art critics, friends, other artists, Matthew’s siblings and son. Matthew died in 2016 and left behind an extraordinary body of work, much of it never seen in a public setting before.
